The Shaw/Neubert family trees

Alexander Stephen Shaw

born c. 1867 (I have a date of 04/07/1863 for an Alexander Shaw who is descended from Timothy Shaw but this is another person I think, residence 1881: 12 Porthill Close, Aberdeen.), anyway he died 18 May 1922.

A stonemason, a Gordon highlander in the Boer war 1900-1902, and latterly an agent selling sewing machines.  I believe that he remained based in Scotland for most of his life.

With his wife, Helen Shaw nee Will, produced 4 children: Alexander (Sandy), Nell, John, and Daniel.

He had numerous siblings!  Brothers (included James Henry Timothy William and  Daniel), 4 sisters (Jessie, Eliza, Mary-Ann and Jane).

His parents were Daniel Shaw and Mary Scorgie, putting Alexander in the line descended from John W. Shaw (Alexander's grandfather).

It was through this family link that I was lucky enough to make contact with David and Barbara Christy, who in 2000 were given John Shaw's address in Manchester by Helen Cecil nee Landry.  David is descended from Jessie Shaw.

Before moving on, note the odd little poem Alexander bequeathed to his son (at the bottom of this page).

Navigation: To return to Peter / Cathy, select his son Alexander (Sandy).

The picture shown above is his gift to his son Sandy.  On the back is a strange hand-written poem, which I can barely decipher. The original file was 1.5Mb, so I shrank it.

The text goes as follows:

If ever you are puzzled
With some problems in your mind?
Just take this photo in your hand
Let ? look well in mine

? who knows that some subtle power
which we do not understand
may give you inspiration
? ? faltering hand

you ? ? ? are the best
Although ? ? board: I'll be handy
to help you on life's thorny path
and set? you right dear Sandy

Don't smile my son when you read this
and think I've had a drappie
there's wiser men than you and I
believe in telepathy.

With best love & wishes
to Sandy
from his father
Alex. Shaw
