Toby Hindson
2 October 1968 - date.
Toby Hindson is a member of the Ancient Yew Forum and has published several research reports on growth rates in yews, putting forward a 6 phase model with an initial rapid phase, a mid-life equilibrium, then a paradoxical acceleration in growth as the core decays and mechanical bulging adds to the natural growth increments. Eventually mechanical equilibrium returns and the growth continues at a steady pace for another few thousand years. We should be aware that the UK is blessed with some of the oldest yew trees in the world, with several very likely pre-dating the Romans.
He is married to Lesley, the back of whose head appears on at least one photograph of a yew being measured!
