John W. Shaw
born c. 1780, died 1838. He married Jane Norrie in Aberdeen around 1817.
His children included Daniel Shaw, Timothy Shaw, John Shaw 14 September 1817-? and Jane.
There is a suggestion that John W. Shaw moved from England (probably
Yorkshire, maybe Staffordshire) to Scotland to build a waterwheel for the
wool industry there. John's widow Jane stayed in Scotland for 22
years after his death, then sailed with her widowed daughter and 2 children
to the USA in 1860. They converted to mormonism in Malta then took
a wagon train to Utah and settled as mormons. Another daughter followed
with her husband, leaving a large branch of the Shaw family in Utah.
The whole story has been put on the web in remarkable detail by Dennis
Anderson (email: idahokid@pacbell.net) here.
