Her first husband was was Alexander Steven, a merchant seaman who died in 1878 off Cape Horn. She re-married to William Innes Smith in 14/07/1881, and had 3 children: Williamina Smith, Charles Smith and Nellie Innes Smith
Her father was Daniel Shaw, so that her grandfather was John W. Shaw.
